About Visual Culture
Visual expression - an expression of a moment in time, a tradition, a culture, an individual. An expression carries meaning, it communicates, it is open to reading and interpretation. It is not a final product, but an ever-changing player in the history of ideas and thought.
The Faculty of Visual Culture places visual expression in a cultural context. Students are encouraged to think critically, to theorise and analyse, to abstract from the immediate, and to develop a capacity for verbal and visual literacy. One of the strengths of NCAD graduates has been their broad awareness of the cultural context in which contemporary artists and designers operate, and their ability to locate their own work within this context.
