Primary Degrees
EU Nationals/Residents
NCAD is included in the "Free Fees Initiative".
NCAD will apply the regulations governing this scheme applicable at the time of a student's registration.
Under this scheme, course fees will not be charged to EU nationals who have been ordinarily resident in an EU Member State for at least three of the five years preceding their entry to their third-level course, provided they are first time entrants to an undergraduate degree course, subject to Department of Education and Science regulations.
Students who have previously been registered for any part of a 3rd level course may be required to pay course fees at NCAD for any year-level which they are repeating.
Applicants wishing to transfer to NCAD from other third-level colleges should consult the Admissions Office.
For information, the EU fees (primary degree) for the 2011/12 academic session (including registration/service charge fee of €2,000) were €6,000.
These fees are subject to increase for 2012/13 and following years.

Primary Degrees
Non-EU Nationals/Residents
Students from countries which are not member states of the European Union must pay all fees in full prior to registration.
For information the full fee for 2011/12 was €16,520. This fee is subject to increase for 2012/13 and following years.
Non-EU residents will need to provide evidence that they have financial support sufficient to maintain and accommodate themselves for the duration of their studies at the National College of Art and Design. Please note that overseas fees must be paid IN FULL prior to registration.
Non-EU residents are required to register with the Department of Justice on arrival in Dublin.
Applicants from the United States
The College courses were recognised under the Family Federal Loans Scheme for loans to American students. NCAD is reasonably confident that eligibility with regard to its courses will cover the academic year 2012/ 2013.
NCAD’s full-time programmes are included on the register of approved programmes for non-EU/EEA/Swiss students access to employment (the Internationalisation Register of the Department of Education and Science).
Primary Degrees
EU students must pay a registration/ service charge in order to register. In the case of grant holders, this is covered by their grant authority. In 2011/12 this was €2,000. This fee is subject to increase for 2012/13 and following years. This charge is included in the total fee paid by non-EU students.
Course and Examination Fees
Post Graduate Diploma in Art and Design Education and Post Graduate Diploma in Community Arts Education
These courses are not included in the “Free Fees Initiative”. Fees are payable by all students not holding Higher Education Grants.
For information, the Higher Diploma fees in 2009/10 were (EU rate):
PDipADEd – €5,200
PDipCAEd – €3,100
The fee is payable in two equal instalments, in September and January.
This fee is subject to increase for 2010/11 and following years.

Additional Costs
Materials and Equipment
Students are required to meet the cost of materials provided by the College. In addition, students will require basic equipment.
Maintenance Costs
It is estimated that living expenses of a student living away from home for a 30 week session (exclusive of course fees, materials and living expenses during holiday periods) is approximately €13,000. Costs for students living at home would be considerably less.
Grants and Scholarships
As at the time this prospectus is going to press there are legislative changes under way regarding the student funding available in Ireland, prospective students are advised to consult www.studentfinance.ie for up-to-date information on government grant-aid for students.
Portfolio Preparation Scholarship Programme
6 Scholarships are awarded by the Faculty of Education to CEAD’s Portfolio Preparation course for pupils who attend designated Access schools.
Financial Assistance Fund and Childcare Support Fund
The College operates these schemes for particular cases of hardship. The budget available is very limited. Information is available from the Student Support Officer.
Students from Northern Ireland
Students from Northern Ireland should apply to their local grant authority (usually the Education and Library Board) for details of grants and the conditions applying to those grants.
Students from England, Scotland and Wales
Students from the UK who register at NCAD may apply to the UK Student Loan Scheme. Information may be obtained from the NCAD Accounts Office.
Overseas Students
Students from outside Ireland or the UK should obtain information on scholarships from the Ministry of Education and Science of their own country (or other appropriate state agency). Students who have not established residence in Ireland are not eligible for maintenance grants from Irish grant authorities.

NOTES: *All Masters Mode A & PhD students in the Design & Fine Art faculties are liable for the Studio Rate Fee. Where the Head of Dept signs a declaration that the student is using no studio space or facilities a refund of the studio portion of the fee will be made. In certain cases Masters & PhD students in the Education faculty may use studio space/facilities and must pay the additional charge.
