Primary Degrees
EU Nationals/Residents

NCAD is included in the "Free Fees Initiative".

NCAD will apply the regulations governing this scheme applicable at the time of a student's registration.

Under this scheme, course fees will not be charged to EU nationals who have been ordinarily resident in an EU Member State for at least three of the five years preceding their entry to their third-level course, provided they are first time entrants to an undergraduate degree course, subject to Department of Education and Science regulations.

Students who have previously been registered for any part of a 3rd level course may be required to pay course fees at NCAD for any year-level which they are repeating.

Applicants wishing to transfer to NCAD from other third-level colleges should consult the Admissions Office.

For information, the EU fees (primary degree) for the 2011/12 academic session (including registration/service charge fee of 2,000) were 6,000.

These fees are subject to increase for 2012/13 and following years.

Non-EU residents will need to provide evidence that they have financial support sufficient to maintain and accommodate themselves for the duration of their studies at the National College of Art and Design. Please note that overseas fees must be paid IN FULL prior to registration.

Non-EU residents are required to register with the Department of Justice on arrival in Dublin.

Additional Costs

Materials and Equipment

Maintenance Costs

It is estimated that living expenses of a student living away from home for a 30 week session (exclusive of course fees, materials and living expenses during holiday periods) is approximately €13,000. Costs for students living at home would be considerably less.

Grants and Scholarships

As at the time this prospectus is going to press there are legislative changes under way regarding the student funding available in Ireland, prospective students are advised to consult www.studentfinance.ie for up-to-date information on government grant-aid for students.

Portfolio Preparation Scholarship Programme

6 Scholarships are awarded by the Faculty of Education to CEAD’s Portfolio Preparation course for pupils who attend designated Access schools.

Financial Assistance Fund and Childcare Support Fund

The College operates these schemes for particular cases of hardship. The budget available is very limited. Information is available from the Student Support Officer.

Students from Northern Ireland

Students from Northern Ireland should apply to their local grant authority (usually the Education and Library Board) for details of grants and the conditions applying to those grants.

Students from England, Scotland and Wales

Students from the UK who register at NCAD may apply to the UK Student Loan Scheme. Information may be obtained from the NCAD Accounts Office.

Overseas Students

Students from outside Ireland or the UK should obtain information on scholarships from the Ministry of Education and Science of their own country (or other appropriate state agency). Students who have not established residence in Ireland are not eligible for maintenance grants from Irish grant authorities.

Applicants from the United States

The College courses were recognised under the Family Federal Loans Scheme for loans to American students. NCAD is reasonably confident that eligibility with regard to its courses will cover the academic year 2012/ 2013.
