Appointment of Alex Milton as Programme Director of the Year of Design 2015

The current Head of Design at NCAD, Professor Alex Milton, has been appointed Programme Director of the Year of Design 2015 by the Design and Crafts Council of Ireland.

Professor Milton will leave his post at NCAD in the coming months, but will retain a visiting role in relation to aspects of PhD and Research projects.

Commenting today, Professor Declan McGonagle, Director of NCAD, said: “I would like to congratulate Alex on this significant appointment, wish him success for the Year of Design 2015, and thank him sincerely for his work and his contribution to NCAD.  NCAD aims to play an active role in next year’s Year of Design, and we look forward to continuing a close working relationship with Alex in this regard.”

Professor Milton said: “I am honoured to have been selected as Programme Director for the forthcoming Year of Design.  I believe this is an important opportunity to promote and prioritise Irish design, and to shine a spotlight on it at a global level.  At NCAD, my work has focused on ensuring Irish design graduates are amongst the best in the world.  In my new role, I will continue to highlight the importance of Irish design and the fact that – as a nation – we can excel in this area.”

NCAD hopes to recruit a new Head of Design over the summer months.  Further information will be available on the NCAD website.
