In the early part of the week participants are introduced to a variety of skills, while exploring how these can be utilised within the chosen theme of theatre/drama/narrative. The theme may be broadly interpreted and influenced by personal experience of new surroundings.
Book Arts
Course Description:
Bookbinding methods such as Pamphlet, Japanese, Accordion and Coptic give a good foundation to learning the art, with the possibility of more complex book structures investigated as the course progresses.
Paper engineering and pop up construction will also be explored, perhaps influenced by theatrical set design. Participants will be shown examples of pop up books used within performance and motion pieces. Images and letterforms can be made through drawing and cut paper techniques. There is the option of using a risograph which can simulate the quality of silk screen printing to create small editions.
It is anticipated that the participants will become more self-directed as the week advances, with tutors providing guidance and help when needed. It is envisaged that one or more books can be completed within the course.
