Prof Cert in Creative Diversity
Art and Design have far-reaching capacities for generating shared language and connecting people and communities. The creative arts and industries offer powerful means for conveying ideas and shaping experiences across habituated boundaries. Today we see those forms resonate more than ever before in the multilingual, culturally heterogeneous, digitally interconnected spaces around the globe. There is a striking lack of diversity in the art and design sector, and studios, agencies and organisations do not reflect contemporary society. This course looks to equip learners with an awareness of the issues surrounding designing diversity and equality, such as the need to decolonise the discipline, while also providing the tools, methods and platforms to enact personal, professional and sectoral change. Fostering a culture of inclusion that welcomes difference, promotes agency and facilitates shared community-building, enabling long marginalised voices to join and substantively transform our creative discourses, and engaging further with global perspectives and a more expansive spectrum of creative cultures, practices, and competencies.
The Professional Certificate in Creative Diversity encourages participants to integrate research, creative practice and contemporary methods, theory and contexts.
The programme is delivered under the Creative Futures Academy, a dynamic partnership between NCAD, UCD and IADT.
The course seeks to prepare students with the practical and theoretical means to develop contemporary creative practice and theory within a specialist award, while benefitting from a broader interdisciplinary creative discourse and community of practice.
The programme aims to:
- provide participants with appropriate skills and knowledge that can be applied to their professional development as a creative practitioner.
- develop participant’s knowledge and skills to prepare them for further life-long learning.
- assist participants in developing their own practice in relation to contemporary creative practice and discourse.
