MARY CAWLEY Travel Bursary 2024/25
The Mary Cawley Travel Bursary supports full-time students who are registered with the NCAD Access Office. Those students who entered NCAD through the Access or HEAR/DARE route and are in their second, third or fourth year of study and/or who have progressed to post-graduate study at NCAD are eligible to apply. Additonally those who are eligible for any of the following may also apply.

The Mary Cawley Travel Bursary was created to support activities that lead to professional development for full-time students at the National College of Art and Design. The bursary was created through the will of John Cawley in memory of his mother.

What can I apply for:
- Travel to participate in workshops, classes or seminars
- Travel to attend international events related to my course of study
- Travel to attend conferences or exhibitions of significance
- Travel to assist in the presentation of scholarly or artistic works that will significantly help in the development of my career in the arts.
Award Amounts
The maximum award(s) for 2024/25 is €5,000
The value of individual awards may vary from year to year.
General Guidelines
All applications should include an explanation of how this activity will contribute to their development as an artist, designer, researcher or art teacher.
In evaluating all proposals, the assessors will consider:
- The merit and value of the activity, the potential to enhance the applicant’s performance in creative activity as well as to facilitate professional development as an artist
- The adequacy of the proposal and in particular the project statement, budget, and the clarity and appropriateness of supporting documentation.
Mary Black Exhibition Bursary 2024/25
The Mary Black Exhibition Bursary supports full-time students who are registered with the NCAD Access Office. The bursary was created through the will of Mary Black to assist students
with costs associated with their final year exhibition at NCAD.

Why Can Apply:
Undergraduate and postgraduate students, who entered NCAD through the supplementary
access route or HEAR/DARE routes and are in their final year of study, are eligible to apply. Additonally those who are eligible for the following;

- 1916 Bursary
- HEAR/DARE
What can I apply for:
Costs associated with your final year exhibition that may include: materials, publications, video work, printing, photography, framing, installation costs. This list is not exhaustive.
Award Amount(s)
The maximum award(s) for 2024/25 is €500.
The value of individual awards may vary from year to year.
General Guidelines
In evaluating all proposals, the assessors will consider:
- The adequacy of the proposal and in particular the project statement, budget, and the clarity and appropriateness of supporting documentation.
- Costs associated with your final exhibition.
- Tutor Reference.

Who Can Apply?
Any students entering year 1 of an (undergraduate) programme in the academic year (2024/25) with a household reckonable income less than €26,200, who are in the identified priority groups, can apply for the bursary.

What is the 1916 Bursary?
The 1916 Bursary is co-funded by the Government of Ireland and the European Union through the Department of Further and Higher Education, Research, Innovation and Science (DFHERIS) and aims to encourage participation and success by students who are most socio-economically disadvantaged and from groups most under-represented in higher education.
Am I eligible?
Interested applicants to the 1916 Bursary Fund should check the application criteria on The 1916 Bursary Website and can use the criteria quick check prior to commencing their application. Additionally you can also view the application checklist to review the criteria necessary.
How much is the 1916 Bursary worth?
Tier 1: €5,000 per annum for the duration of your studies.
Tier 2: €2,000 per annum for the duration of your studies.
Tier 3: €1,500 Once-Off Bursary for 2024/25 . The number of Tier 3 bursaries is to be determined based on existing underspends in the system from 2023/24 and the remaining balance after continuing (including postgraduate) bursaries have been allocated for 2024/25
Tier 1 and 2 bursaries will also be paid as students’ progress into postgraduate study. This means that students already in receipt of a 1916 Bursary and who are completing their undergraduate studies will be entitled to continue to receive their bursary for postgraduate study.
