The ALCID (Academic Libraries Co-operating in Ireland) Card is a readers' card that entitles NCAD staff and postgraduate students to admission (without borrowing rights) at the following Irish academic libraries: TCD, DCU, UCD, NUI Maynooth, Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, St. Patrick's College Drumcondra, UL, NUI Galway, UCC, DIT, Mary Immaculate College, St Angela's College Sligo, DIAS and University of Ulster.
The ALCID card is available to all current NCAD Masters and Doctoral students and to NCAD staff. Undergraduates are not eligible for ALCID cards at present. Undergraduates wishing to visit other academic libraries may apply (during office hours) at NCAD's Edward Murphy Library for letters requesting permission.
How to collect your ALCID Card:
You may collect your ALCID card at the Edward Murphy Library issue desk. To receive your ALCID card you must produce a current valid college ID card. Applications must be in person and the card must be signed by the bearer at the point of issue. Please make sure that your ALCID card contains the same name and college ID number that is on your staff or student card and that it is signed by you before you leave the desk.
How to use your ALCID card:
Once you have your ALCID card you may visit any of the above libraries without prior appointment. The ALCID card is only valid with your current NCAD staff or student ID card. Participating libraries may ask you to produce both in order to gain entry so always make sure you have them with you.
