NCAD Design grads double win at the ARTSTHREAD i-D Global Graduate Awards 2020
BA Product Design (2020) graduate Sabhín O'Sullivan and BA Interaction Design (2020) graduate Diarmuid Farrell scoop top prizes in the ARTSTHREAD i-D Global Graduate Awards 2020
Congratulation to Sabhín, the overall winner of the Design for Social Good category.
Sabhín's winning design is for Nurah, a kit that facilitates the remote monitoring of vital signs of newborn babies in low-resource countries. The monitor connects to a smartphone app so carers can find out more in-depth information about the baby’s health. Nurah brings playfulness to the healthcare sector while performing an important function. It can also be used to monitor patients' vital signs in healthcare facilities, reducing nurses’ workload and enabling them to react faster to changes in patients’ health.

Congatulations to Diarmuid, the overall winner in the Interaction/Game Design category.
Diarmuid's winning design is 'Woven Chats', an exploration of digital ephemera and how meaning can be extracted from this data. He created a platform that enables users to explore and attribute value to an abstracted version of their WhatsApp data in the form of a digital and physical tapestry. Each stitch represents a text message, highlighting key events and emotions using colour and form, allowing the user to create an object encoded with personal significance that reflects their relationships.
