Press Release - NCAD Appoints Interim Director

NCAD Appoints Interim Director

The National College of Art and Design has announced that its former Head of School of Education, Professor Gary Granville, has been appointed as interim director of the college. The college has adopted a three stage process in filling the post of director, vacated by Professor Declan McGonagle who retired in late-December 2015.

The first stage is the short-term appointment of interim director. Dr Granville will remain in this position until the board of NCAD completes the second stage, the recruitment process and selection of an acting director.

The post of acting director was advertised in late-2015, and a candidate is expected to be recruited in the first quarter of 2016.  In the meantime, the board of NCAD is committed to preparing the third stage of the process: a search and selection of a permanent director. It is envisaged that the long-term director will be in place in 2017.

Speaking on his role, Professor Granville said: “I am very pleased to take up the interim directorship of NCAD. I have been associated with the college for almost two decades and it is a privilege to take on a leadership role, as the college moves to the long-term appointment of NCAD director over the next year.

“The programme of transition to a new era under a new director has been carefully considered by An Bord, and it is clear that the appropriate infrastructure will be put in place and every care and due time will be taken to hire a candidate who can take NCAD to the next level in terms of student recruitment, innovation and sustainability.  My role as interim director will be to ensure the continued delivery of excellence in our academic programming, while supporting An Bord and the soon-to-be recruited acting director in the development of NCAD.”

ENDS.
