NCAD wins award from the International Design Community Core 77
NCAD’s submission to this process was the 2014 version of the Folio Brief.
NCAD have received an award from the International Design community Core77 for the 2014 folio submission brief. The professional notables award was made under the category of Educational Initiatives.
The annual Core77 Design awards celebrate the achievements of Design Practitioners across 17 categories and receive submissions on a global basis. These are judged in a rigorous process by a panel of international design leaders.
NCAD’s submission to this process was the 2014 version of the Folio Brief.
The Folio Brief comprises of a set of inter-related Art and Design tasks, which require an individual creative response to be carried out within a framework. The Folio Brief pro-actively reaches out with clarity and ambition, but it is also fun, welcoming, inviting and totally fair.
It encourages invention, and experimentation but also provides opportunities to show a sustained methodical approach, and the demonstration of careful, skill based work.
Some of the comments made by the jurors were as follows:
“I thought it was brilliant in trying to measure potential rather than just achievement”
“For us the Brief was really exciting, because it seems to introduce to students the principles of creative thinking that they will learn and develop while they are still at school”
The submission was prepared by John Waid, Lecturer/Tutor NCAD, in consultation with Theresa McKenna, Head of First Year NCAD. You can view the detail of the entire submission awards process by following these links:
