NCAD students to showcase work in windows of Brown Thomas

A chandelier made of plastic bottles, a radiator transformed into a chair and an elaborate sculpture made of chopsticks are just some of the examples of a new exhibition of work by National College of Art and Design (NCAD)  students going on display in the windows of Brown Thomas today (22.01.2015). The exhibition, entitled ‘The Gallery of Found Art’, is based on sustainability and the reuse of materials and is the result of a collaboration between the College and Brown Thomas.

Second year Textile Surface Design and Jewellery and Metalwork students will exhibit six of their works in the department store’s windows, as well as an additional sculpture in the menswear department. The exhibition will be on display from Friday, 22nd January until Sunday, 21st February 2016.

Speaking at the launch of the exhibition, Angela O’Kelly, Head of Design for Body and Environment at NCAD: “We are delighted to be collaborating with Brown Thomas on 'The Gallery of Found Art' project which embraces sustainability, recycling and reusability. This exhibition provides an opportunity to showcase the creativity, innovation and skills that NCAD students acquire and develop during their studies. It is so important for our students and staff to work on live industry projects pushing our design expertise and developing collaborations across disciplines. NCAD is renowned for producing highly successful graduates and the students involved in this exhibition are the designers of the future."
