NCAD expresses its deep regret at the passing of Edward Murphy.

It was with great sadness that we learnt of the death of Eddie Murphy, who retired as NCAD Librarian in 2013. He died peacefully on Saturday morning with his family around him.

Eddie Murphy made an substantial and unique contribution to NCAD. He established the College Library as the outstanding art and design library in Ireland, named in 2013, in his honour, the Edward Murphy Library. He was also responsible for the conception and development of NIVAL which is universally accepted as a unique national resource for the sector and the College. He was highly valued by the art community and was still working, with typical generosity, on behalf of the College during his retirement and during his illness.

He will be sorely missed and we offer our sincerest condolences to Eddie's immediate and extended family, his friends and colleagues. While he was succeeded as Librarian, he has not been replaced - because, quite simply, Eddie is irreplaceable.

May he rest in peace.
