NCAD Students and Recent Grads Sweep the Boards at Recent Design Awards
School of Design students and grads see their work acknowledged at 3 recent prestigious design awards: the ICAD Awards 2020; the DCCI Future Makers Awards; and the IDI Graduate Design Awards 2020.
Students and recent graduates at the National College of Art and Design (NCAD)’s School of Design have seen their work acknowledged at three recent prestigious design awards: the Institute of Create Advertising and Design (ICAD) Awards 2020; The Design and Crafts Council of Ireland (DCCI) Future Makers Awards; and the Irish Design Institute’s IDI Graduate Design Awards 2020.
At the ICAD Awards 2020, NCAD graphic design graduate Kate Dennehy won the highly prestigious student designer of the year award, while six additional NCAD graduates received ICAD Upstart Awards.
The DCCI Future Makers Award recognised NCAD fashion design graduate Tom Langton as its overall student winner for his work which creates a conversation between masculinity and femininity in menswear. Nine additional NCAD recent graduates and students saw their work awarded across the categories: materials support; professional development support; travel and training; and emerging makers.
NCAD also saw six of its design students win awards at the IDI Graduate Design Awards 2020, including the NCAD Design Bureau team of Keith Fitzsimmons, Alex Hennessy, Roisin Maher and Joe Fahy who won the sustainability award and design for change award for their project ‘Seafloor’.
Commenting on the successes, Professor Alex Milton Head of the School of Design at the National College of Art and Design said: “Despite the challenges of the pandemic, 2020 has been a stellar year for NCAD students. The announcement of these awards follows the success the college saw earlier this year, with it taking three iD x Arts Thread Global Graduate Awards; five International Society of Typographic Design Awards; two Universal Design Awards; the Create Ireland Recent Graduate Research and Development Award; the Brown Thomas Young Designer to Watch Award; the River Island Design Award; and three Royal Society of the Arts Global Design Award Shortlists.
“Congratulations to all the winners and shortlisted students and graduates, and the staff team who supported their projects. The ongoing success of our students and graduates demonstrates the quality of our designer education, and the importance NCAD places on design research, creative exploration and experimentation.”
