The Performance Collective is a group of five visual artists who make collaborative, improvised, live performance art. Pauline Cummins, Alex Conway, Michelle Browne, Frances Mezzetti and Dominic Thorpe comprise the artist members working together since 2008. For Excuse me, I’m not finished! at the NCAD Gallery, The Performance Collective explore the development of a series of collaborative improvised performances that challenge the position of the individual artist and the dynamics of working with live encounters as a group. Through actions, sounds, engagement with materials, time, space and context The Performance Collective create a unified and collective voice focused on physical presence. Developed specifically for the context of NCAD, a number of performances from the 9th to 16th of April 2015 are scheduled, with an opportunity to also view visual documentation of previous work by the Group.

The Performance Collective have worked with many performance artists, including members of Belfast based Bbeyond, and have performed at Temple Bar Gallery & Studios, Catalyst Arts Belfast, Broadcast Gallery DIT, The Backloft and The Dock, Carrick-on-Shannon. In 2012 they presented Subject to Ongoing Change, fourteen consecutive days of live performance as part of the Galway Arts Festival at Galway Arts Centre.
Performing solely through improvisation in the live setting, the Collective is specifically interested in how the individual can impact on group work and how a voice of collective authorship can be honed over time. The physical presence of the artist as part of the work is fundamental, a relationship intensified in context - with / for an audience. Bodily awareness is a significant factor with an overall focus on movement and physicality situated in an environment; working with a variety of materials and found objects selected for their visual, cultural, personal or historical characteristics. Influenced by Blackmarket, Futurists, Dada, Nauman, Yoko Ono and Cage, The Performance Collective is unique in Ireland and internationally in practicing interactive improvisation.
