Michelle Browne

B.A in Fine Art

Assistant Lecturer

Michelle Browne is an artist and curator based in Dublin. Her work encompasses a diverse range of media, including live performance, public interventions, video, sound, sculpture, writing, and collaboration. Her work is informed by feminist theory and explores small acts of resistance that question how society is organised and how we exist within current structures. The work is frequently made with an existing ‘community’ or with a group temporarily formed around a particular issue or interest. Her work is often developed site specifically and context informs much of her practice. Recently the work has take the form of non-fictional or semi-fictional narratives performed as tours or lecture performances. Some of her most recent work has looked at the politicisation of women in Irish society and how women become active citizens both through existing political structures and at home. The unifying element in the different forms of Browne’s practice is an investigation of how we co-exist together as a public of diverse individuals. At its crux is the question of what it means to live together; how society organises itself - socially, politically and spatially - and how these relationships play out in the public arena.
