Emma Creighton

BDes, MSc

Assistant Lecturer

Emma’s ongoing research investigates the effectiveness of design learning as an approach to facilitate adolescent learning and as an explicit intervention into the conventional school process. Emma’s additional research interests relate to the design of technology enhanced platforms for open-ended and free play.

Emma Creighton is a lecturer in the School of Design where she lectures on undergraduate and postgraduate programmes including the BA (Hons) in Product Design, the BA (Hons) in Interaction Design and the MA in Interaction Design, which she coordinates.

Emma has been a researcher within the institute on a number of EU FP7-funded projects including the Task Furniture in Education (TFE) project and Practice Based Experiential Learning Analytics Research and Support (PELARS) project. Much of her experience is in the youth and education sectors where she has worked on projects for clients including the National Youth Council of Ireland, Dublin City Council, South Dublin County Council Arts Office and Scouting Ireland.

Emma is nearing the completion of her PhD, which investigates the effectiveness of an out-of-school design learning intervention within the context of second-level education. Her additional research interests relate to the design of technology enhanced platforms for open-ended and free play.
