Aoife Scott is an Irish visual artist and educator working across print, painting and sculpture. Scott received her BA from NCAD in 2013 and an MA from The Royal College of Art, London in 2017. Before taking up her position as an Assistant Lecturer in the Print department in NCAD in 2019 she worked for both Graphic Studio Dublin and Stoney Road Press on their studio printmaking teams. Having exhibited internationally and in Ireland, Scott’s work has been collected by The Victoria & Albert Museum, London, The British Library, London and The National Gallery of Ireland. She is the recipient of numerous awards, most recently Arts Council Agility Award and Fingal Artists’ Support Scheme.
Aoife Scott’s practice, primarily rooted in printmaking and painting embodies a complex, personal and deeply thoughtful response to nature. Pivoting around the concepts of the Anthropocene, Solastalgia and the Symbioscene, Scott’s practice explores places and spaces where land meets sea or where sea meets land. While expressing and communicating a reverberating tension and anxiety around the dynamic and fraught relationship between man and nature, Scott’s work also celebrates the beauty, energy and fragility of the natural world. She explores a tension and friction among processes and materials to engage with the ideologies and materiality presented in her researched natural and manmade environments. It is this complex push and pull between materials and ideologies that she is most interested in exploring.
