Artists Talk: Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca

The National College of Art and Design in partnership with the Clancy Quay Studio programme is pleased to present Brazilian/Irish artists Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca in conversation with curator Rayne Booth and introduced by Professor Sarah Glennie.

Monday 9th December 4:30pm.
Harry Clarke Lecture Theatre,
National College of Art and Design,
100 Thomas Street,
Dublin 8.

Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca collaborate to create films that exist at the intersection of fine art and popular culture, documentary and fiction. Working with diverse groups and communities such as Frevo dancers and Brega singers in Brazil, Schlager singers in Germany, spoken word poets in Toronto, they create true collaborations with the protagonists of their films, raising questions about popular culture, and how it responds to socio economic and post-colonial conditions. Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca represented Brazil at the 2019 Venice Biennale and are currently in Ireland developing a new work, co commissioned by Temple Bar Gallery + Studios and Visual Carlow with support from the Arts Council.

The Clancy Quay Studio artist residency programme is a yearlong studio award for NCAD graduates. As part of the professional enterprise programme, NCAD and Clancy Quay have invited Bárbara Wagner and Benjamin de Burca to take part in a half day seminar with the studio artists and hold this public event to discuss their career and practice with curator Rayne Booth.

This is a free public event but tickets are limited, so please register at Eventbrite here.
