The School of Fine Art is delighted to announce that Alan Phelan is the Artist in Residence for 2019-20. Alan will be contributing to the MFA Fine Art programme and based at the Annex, postgraduate studios. Born 1968 in Dublin, Phelan studied at DCU, Dublin and RIT, New York. Recent projects include Our Kind, a work about Roger Casement, commissioned by Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane for 2016/1916. He has exhibited widely including IMMA Dublin, LCGA Limerick, Solstice Navan, Kunstmuseum Bonn, BOZAR Brussels, OK11 Helsinki, Eastlink Gallery Shanghai, Chapter Cardiff, SKUC Ljubljana, SKC Gallery Belgrade and The Whitney Museum of American Art New York .

Alan Phelan’s practice includes the production of films, sculptures and photographs all within site and context driven installations. He also writes about art,  occasionally curates exhibitions and works in participatory situations where he collaborates with individuals and groups in getting work made.  Over the past last five years there has been an emphasis on moving image installations which contain a myriad of references that take history and fact into a post-truth context working on exhibitions and projects in Dublin, New York, London, Paris, Buenos Aires, Brussels and Helsinki. The work traces intersections of history, sexuality, material culture and politics which have evolved through photography into other media.
