Postgraduate Study in Design: MA & PhD
Areas of Study in Design
Department of Industrial Design
Applicants should normally have a primary degree in industrial design or a closely related subject. They should be able to demonstrate that they have the intellectual, creative and technical skills to pursue an agreed programme of research. Attendance at specific modules of the undergraduate course in industrial design may be arranged if considered necessary. The programme can be flexible, can entail quantitative, qualitative or practical studio-based design research resulting in either an object (or portfolio of objects) designed to an advanced standard or a major written thesis. (The exact nature of the research deliverable will be discussed with your supervisor.) Candidates can choose to use facilities in-College or outside. A written proposal that will form the framework for at least two years of study and research is required. Candidates with an interest in design issues relating to product usability, design for ageing populations, design and disability, design management, design of medical devices, and ergonomics are particularly welcome.
