NCAD Annual Postgraduate Symposium

Tuesday 11 February 2014 9.00am - 5.00pm in the Harry Clarke Lecture Theatre, 100 Thomas St, Dublin 8

This symposium provides a forum for current postgraduate research in the College at both MA and PhD level offering an opportunity for graduate students to showcase their research activity and engage in debate with their peers on questions of methods, ethics and contribution to the field.  An invitation to attend is also extended to students envisaging pursuing graduate study/research at NCAD.   There will be a number of panel sessions at which invited research students will present snapshots of their work at various points in its gestation, development, field, studio and library research, and writing up/presentation/exhibition.  The work presented will cover the full range of scholarly and creative research currently undertaken by NCAD postgraduate students.

PROGRAMME

9.30am   Welcome and Introduction to the Symposium:  Professor Des Bell, Head of Academic Affairs and Research

Guest speaker:  Dr. Daniel  Jewesbury  (University of Ulster)  'New constellations of research in the visual  arts:  theory, practice and social engagement'

10.00am - 11.00am   Session 1.  Developing a research idea and an appropriate methodology for a Masters or PhD project
