34 appointments at NCAD to enhance art education and international reputation

Thursday 1st September, 2016

The National College of Art and Design (NCAD), ranked 40th in the world’s top 100 art and design schools by academic reputation, is investing in its academic, technical and administrative teams. Speaking today (01.09.16), Bernard Hanratty, Acting Director of NCAD, said these appointments will improve the experience of NCAD students and reaffirm the College’s commitment to its vital role as a centre of excellence in art education, both nationally and internationally.

There are currently 16 jobs advertised on the College website, 7 posts were filled in June 2016 and a further 11 positions will be advertised over the coming weeks. These announcements will comprise 34 posts in total. A number of these posts will serve to regularise contributions from staff members that have previously been delivered through part-time hours.

Bernard Hanratty, Acting Director, NCAD, commented: “NCAD has come through a difficult period in terms of finances and governance. Through our work in NCAD over the past six months, we are now reaching a position of improved financial stability and improved corporate governance. In June 2016 we completed the first cycle of the new academic curriculum and hosted the largest ever graduate showcase. The College has turned a corner.

“Our ambition is to fully deliver the potential of NCAD’s renewed curriculum to secure and extend the College’s national and international reputation as one of the leading art and design colleges in the world. The management at NCAD has a collaborative and constructive relationship with the HEA and in the past year has worked closely to address issues and secure our funding levels. Our board, working closely with management, is resolute in its mission to restore the College to a position of strength from which to pursue new horizons.

“I would like to congratulate those who have recently joined our staff, whether they have joined us on an academic or administrative level, they are now a part of an institution that is committed to the highest standards in education and academic excellence – as evidenced by NCAD ranking for two years running in the world’s top 100 art and design schools. I look forward to welcoming the full cohort of 34 newly appointed members of staff over the coming weeks and months to this contemporary and culturally significant institution on its historic campus.”

The positions to be filled are a mixture of academic, administrative and technical positions. Academic positions, including Head of School, Head of Department, Lecturer and Assistant Lecturer positions, are available across the Schools of Design, Fine Art, Visual Culture and Education. Administrative and technical positions in academic affairs and research are also available.

The jobs currently advertised include 12 tenured posts and four fixed term / specified purpose contracts. The closing date for all jobs is Friday, 9th September 2016. The exception to this is the position of the Head of School of Design, which has a deadline of Tuesday, 25th October 2016.

All positions are open to external candidates and are posted on publicjobs.ie (type NCAD in the search) except the position of Head of First Year Art and Design, which is an internal posting.
