Digital Resources
NCAD Library subscribes to two digital image databases: the ARTstor and Bridgeman Education. In addition, the Visual Resources Centre is also currently developing the NCAD Digital Image Library. Staff and students can access all our digital resources through this web page using the adequate passwords. For information on these, please contact the Visual Resources Centre.
The Centre has one dedicated workstation for digital resources consultation. Booking essential.

Slide Collection
The Visual Resources Centre houses a collection of 35 mm slides of art/design work and related areas. All the slides are filed first by subject area, then by country, and within each country by century, then alphabetically by artist/designer. This applies to most subject areas of the collection, except for the Industrial Design section, which is organised by type of object. The subject areas covered in the collection are as follows:

In order to aid the process of finding particular images in the collection, there are now two hard copy indexes available for consultation by users: the Design Index and the Sculpture and Photography index. These are organised by artist’s/designer’s name, and list the country, century and subject area under which each individual artist/designer can be found.
Slides can be borrowed by all students and staff. Undergraduate students in years 1-3 can borrow up to 20 slides at a time for 2 weeks. 4th year and postgraduate students can borrow up to 40 slides for 2 weeks. Staff can borrow up to 200 slides for 3 weeks. Users can view the slides on the light table in the Visual Resources Centre, and are required to list the number of slides they have borrowed, with an accurate description of their general content and the date when they were borrowed, in the Slide Borrowing Book. They must also sign their name, department and year of study. The slides must be signed out by a staff member.
Video/DVD Collection
The Visual Resources Centre holds a small collection of art and design videos/ DVDs, covering areas such as Fine Art, Design and Applied Arts, Video Art, Performance Art, Art History, Art Criticism, and Film. Hard copy indexes listing all titles in the collection are available for consultation in the Visual Resources Centre or at the issue desk in the main library.
Videos can be viewed in NCAD’s Learning Centre by students, and can be borrowed by staff for teaching purposes.
