Loans - Books

Most of the books in the Library's collection are available for lending. Loans are issued and returned at the issue desk, opposite the entrance to the Library. A valid Library card is required in order to borrow.

Library loans entitlements are as follows:

Undergraduate and professional diploma students

Users in this category can borrow up to six books. The loan period is two weeks.

CEAD students who have registered for accredited courses

Users in this category can borrow up to six books. The loan period is two weeks.

Postgraduate students

Users in this category can borrow up to ten books. The loan period is four weeks.

NCAD staff

Users in this category can borrow up to twenty books. The loan period is six weeks.

External readers (Registered)

Users in this category can borrow up to two books. The loan period is two weeks.

Renewals

Borrowers can renew books for up to three additional loan periods, provided that another library user does not require them. External readers can renew a loan only once.

Loans can be renewed in the Library or by telephone (Tel. 01 6364357). They can also be renewed from the My Account screen on the OPAC.

Reservations

Library users can reserve books that are out on loan by completing a reservations form and handing it in at the issue desk. Reservations can also be made online through the OPAC Request screen.

Returns

The return date is stamped on books when they are issued. Always return books to the main issue desk and hand them to the member of staff on duty. Do not abandon books at the issue desk, on trolleys or in the reading rooms.

Fines

Fines are charged at a rate of 25 cents per day and €1.25 per week. Special permission loans carry a fine of €1.25 per day.

Reference only

Some books are not available for lending. These include rare, valuable, out-of-print, reference or high demand books, and exhibition catalogues printed in limited runs.

In particular cases certain reference only books may be lent for a limited period, subject to the discretion of the Librarian. Periodicals, theses, videos and photocopied articles are never lent. These are for use in the library only.

Loans - Language learning materials

Most of the materials held by the Learning Centre can be borrowed. Please ask for details from the Learning Centre staff (Tel. 01 6364380).

Loans - DVDs

The Visual Resources Centre has a growing collection of art and design DVDs. These are available for lending. For further information, please contact the Visual Resources Centre (Tel. 01 6364259).
