Remote (offsite) access to JSTOR and INFORMAWORLD online journals is now available through the Athens service.

If you haven't received an Activation email from NCAD IT Support or Athens, please contact NCAD IT Support and provide your student number and email address.

To access the journal databases, you must enter your username and personal password on the Athens login page. On the Athens homepage, scroll down until you reach the ” My resources” box on the lower right hand side of the screen. The first option on the list is INFORMAWORLD. This service provides online access to a wide range of academic journals. At present the College Library is subscribing to ten titles:

Ergonomics

Ergonomics Abstracts

Index on Censorship

International Journal of Cultural Policy

Irish Studies Review

Journal of Gender Studies

Parallax

Performance Research: A Journal of the Performing Arts

Third Text

Women & Performance: A Journal of Feminist Theory

To access any of these journals click on INFORMAWORLD. On the INFORMAWORLD homepage click on the National College of Art and Design link on the upper left of the screen. This will open a screen with an option to browse publications by the first letter of the journal title. Click on a letter to see a list of publications starting with that letter, e.g. to see Third Text click on “T”.

From the list of titles displayed, click on the title of your choice to go to the publication homepage. In the case of Ergonomics Abstracts, you must then click on the Search tab on the upper left of the screen to start searching. In the case of the other publications, you will find volumes and issues listed on the homepage. Click on the journal issue that you wish to view. Scan the list of articles. Select an article. Then click the information format of your choice, e.g. full text PDF, full text HTML, abstract, etc.

You can open JSTOR from the Athens “My resources” box also. From the JSTOR homepage select Basic Search, Advanced Search or Citation Locator. There are links to tutorials and help options on each screen. To see the list of journals in a particular subject field, e.g. Education, click on the Browse tab and then select “Browse by Discipline”.
