Andrew Folan studied at the National College of Art and Design, Dublin, (1976-79) and completed his postgraduate studies in print and photography at the Slade School of Fine Art London in 1981.
While continuously expanding and challenging conventional print media he frequently explores new technologies. Recent works have spanned print, sculpture, photography and digital process resulting in some highly original, hybrid productions.
He has exhibited widely throughout Ireland and Europe. His recent solo exhibition of printed sculptures Arterial Ink toured to a number of venues in Ireland as well as London, Paris and Stockholm (1991 -2001). More recently his solo exhibition of digital Lambdachrome prints Stray Light was exhibited at the Ashford Gallery, RHA, Dublin (2002). Last year his work was included in the Crawford Open 3, Crawford Gallery, Cork. This year he exhibited in a three person show Dead Bodies at the Centre Culturel Irlandais in Paris.
He has collaborated on a number of public and corporate projects mostly with architects, and medical practitioners. In 2002 he collaborated in a major research project The Digital Surface within Fine Art Practice culminating in a presentation at Tate Britain in June 2003.
His work is included in many major State and corporate collections including The Irish Museum of Modern Art, The Irish Arts Council, Trinity College Dublin, University College Dublin, Allied Irish Banks Collection and the Central Bank of Ireland.
