Tara De Las Casas
"I love this turf face, the black spade marks, the layered secrets of process and ritual."
Seamus Heaney, Kinship.
The bogs are a unique and mysterious element of the Irish landscape, a diverse eco-system, and a forgotten heritage that encompasses mythological secrets. Its layers are like an immense history book unravelling and preserving our past.
My work is concerned with a landscape where traces of human presence are distinctly visible, a disrupted environment that is fragile from exploitation. The intriguing elements of the bogs have inspired my work and enabled an understanding of the ever-changing cycles in nature and the ephemeral nature of human presence on the earth.
