Kate Minnock
My current work is concerned with the intriging variety of colours and textures that seaweed posesses. During my research I experimented with methods of obtaining a natural pigment from the various seaweed types and became interested in its visceral qualities. By fermenting seaweed I documented the skin-like film that grew on the surface of the water. Developed from these photographs and observations are a series of pencil, charcoal and oil studies. By researching for my thesis I discovered that fermented seaweed produces methane gas which can be used as a non-polluting sustainable energy resource. These findings have very much influenced my work.
