Caitriona Moore
My work focuses on themes concerning characters, socialisation, and the idea of preconceptions, moral fables and myths. I’m interested in the use of narrative and the storytelling tradition- the acquisition and portrayal of odd social information; cultural hiccups or quirks in peoples stories / lives and the transferral of this information from the realm of reality to that of fantasy or fairytale. I’ve worked with these themes through use of traditional fairytale motifs, concepts and images mixed with images and text lifted from the world of consumerism and communication: Advertising, magazines, T.V, film, storybooks, newspaper articles and literature.
I’m interested in the way, when isolated from their original source; meanings change, and change further when juxtaposed with other images or texts. Finding things which seem to fit together, clues, codes and connections of themes between reality and fantasy, and the undercurrents or social connotations involved which may affect the image: The sense of the slightly uncomfortable, weird or ambiguous.
