Dervil Jordan, Dip Fine Art, MA, PTA

Dervil Jordan graduated in Fine Art painting from the National College of Art and Design Dublin in 1979. She became involved with Art in Education Initiatives (Artists in Schools Scheme) with the Arts Council for several years before returning to NCAD to get her professional teaching qualification in 1983. She taught at second level for eight years heading up the Art Department at Collinstown Park Community College, Neilstown, Co Dublin. It was here that she became interested in the professional development of art teachers using artists and museum based projects as part of curriculum development in the school.
Dervil joined the Faculty of Education as a lecturer in Art and Design Education in 1992. As co-ordinator of the Higher Diploma for Art and Design teachers she is involved in the professional training of art teachers for second level schools. Her interest in Museum Education has continued into third level, where she co-ordinates the Museum Module within the Faculty of Education. She was also involved in the development of the post graduate Higher Diploma in Community Arts Education at NCAD.
Her research interest in the development of beginning teachers resulted in a Masters in Art and Design Education in 2001.
She has acted as an External Examiner in the Dublin Institute of Technology, for the Early Childhood and Social Care Degree Courses from 1997-2000. More recently she has been the external examiner for the PGCE courses in the University of Ulster, Coleraine Campus 2002- 2005 and the St Andrews, College of Education, University of Glasgow, 2001-2005.
