Ann FitzGibbon graduated from the National College of Art and Design in 1972 with an ANCAD (Hons) in Fine Art Painting. She was awarded the Italian Government travelling scholarship in the same year and studied the history of Italian Painting and Museum Science in Florence.
Ann lectured in NCAD in the School of Painting and the Department of Pre-Diploma Studies from 1973 to 1975 when she joined the Faculty of Education at its inception. She was actively involved in the establishment of the 4-year concurrent degree course in Art and Design Education.
In 1976 Ann was granted sabbatical leave and studied Art Education and the Sociology of Education at the South Glamorgan Institute of Education and the University of Wales, Cardiff.
During the 1980’s she served on the Arts Advisory Committee of the Hugh Lane Gallery for seven years, where as a member of the purchasing committee, she was particularly interested in promoting the work of young, emerging artists.
She graduated in 2001 with a Diploma in Archaeology from the NUI, Galway while on a career break from NCAD and returned to full-time lecturing in 2002.
Ann’s research interest is studio based and combines her interest in landscape archaeology with her painting practice.
